It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times

So the year in review. It was all a one sided competition in the end. Simon doing great stuff, this blog attempting ineffectually to tear into that. Bubbleblurster liked Cross Stitch and the Computer game the best, because they were harder to replicate. The caricature was perhaps the weakest, and almost certainly broke the rules (untechnically).

Overall, did we win? Did we succeed in besting Simon?

I think it's fair to say we came a very close third in this two man race, with plenty of room to improve from the future. It was fun, but Simon came out of it with most of his pride intact, so you have to say it was an epic fail.

Until Bubbleblurster finds another way around the retraining order, it's time to leave Simon alone... for now.

Finale - a bad attempt at animation

So, we draw to a close. Ok, so it's totally not 2013 any more. However, Bubbleblurster is still concluding within a 12 month window, which is more than we can say for Simon.

Let's face it, his cross stitch can't be mocked with an hour. And the computer game too. He's just too good at those things.

So instead, here's an animation that covers both those bases, and concludes the project from Bubbleblurster's perspective. Millions of dollars were spent on the animation, so be prepared to be totally blown away. I would encourage you to wear your 3D glasses, as it will make everything look 3D.

Also, there's no sound accompaniment. If you really want to add some, we would highly recommend the Benny Hill theme tune.

Now, the idea of this animation is as follows. Simon didn't do an animation, so it's the one project that is our own. So the first point is Bubbleblurster's first (and only) weak attempt at originality.

The second point is about filling a gap. Simon did do a go pro video. Now, if you look carefully at the go pro video, you'll see that the bulk of it is Simon on public transport. The crucial missing bit is Simon's work life. We only see him sitting down at his desk. We get no insight into his day-to-day office experience - absolutely none!

This animation seeks to fill in that critical gap in Simon's go pro project.

Enjoy.

A Rebuttal Play

Simon's play was actually tight- kudos to him. It came late, but it's very witty - I wouldn't want to spoil it for you.

The response I can assure you took well within the 1 hour limit, in fact, I would say 10 minutes. That makes up for other times, I would say, so we can call it a cross subsidy.

The play is called: Procrastination.

Procrastination

A very short play

FIRST DRAFT

19 December 2013

Cast:

Two women

Two men

A Peacock

Interior. Share house. Two rooms.

To stage right is a lounge room, with a couch and TV and an elaborate Persian rug strung up against one side of the wall. On the floor a baseball bat, police chalk outline of a body on the floor. The front door is at far stage right, leading off stage.

To stage left is study with a computer (must be an Apple), computer desk and one  chair. A Buffy standee propped against a wall, pizza boxes strewn across the floor and an Xbox with couch plugged into a TV on the far left of the room.

Centre stage there is a door (real or mimed) separating the two rooms.

Early evening. Young man and woman in the kitchen, mid conversation.

Simon:
... and he never managed to ever finish the job.
Bek:
Well Simon, you're hardly one to talk. You've been working on this blog all year, and you seem to have faltered about half-way through.
Simon:
But I've been working on this play -
Bek:
- which you're not even going to finish.
Simon:
I will so finish it...

Peacock enters the room from the right.

The end.

Simon is cookin'

Seeing as Simon has finally pushed out his next project, it seems only fair to respond. However, I'll do it in a different order to Simon. Nothing in the rules says I can't, so let's get straight into the cooking.

I call this Le Simon.

Now, a copy of a copy is never quite as good, but this was the original that I was going for:
I know. Can you even see the difference?

Well, at least I closed this one out in well under an hour. For completeness, what you need to make this tasty dish is:

1) Cranberries
2) Blueberries
3) An apple (red, preferably not enchanted)
4) Mango
5) any kind of small nut for the beard
6) Almonds
7) Plums
8) Absolutely nothing else to do with your time.

I would recommend the Rutherglen Tawny Port as a fine support to finish it off.

There's only one recipe on this blog, but it's a happy one. I'm not going to remove the cranberries and call it a separate meal just to create a filler, like some have been known to do...

PWNing Poetry

Oh Simon you half bearded fiend
A try to make confounding poetry
Has merely manifested a foe in me
This poem ensures the slate will soon be cleaned.
Iambic pentameter I have learned
And I can dodge trochees even while in sleep
A pyric foot we can argue to keep
Lets face it boyo you may have been burned.
Yet really I should not be boastful pride
The truth is that the clock unmanned my work
An hour is parsimoneous I confess
So head is hung in shame nowhere to hide
Without my saying I have been a jerk
It may be that at poetry you are best.

Video Challenge Accepted

Next challenge was a video. Now, I'm not sure if you include the time it took to figure out how to use video editing software. If you don't, I'm still within the hour. Also, you'd have to take out the breaks. And the little pauses between the mouse clicks. Definitely still an hour.
