Reducing expectations

When I was a kid, I used to spend hours building castles from cheap wooden blocks provided by the teacher at playtime. Each would be painstakingly laid on top of the other until a tower was built soaring above the hard lino floors of the classroom. Well ok, it only ever went up to hip height, but nonetheless it was an achievement.

Then some pimply faced kid would come running through, demolishing my and other kids' towers. We victims would cry, tell on him and start again. But he would laugh and giggle and enjoy the feeling of being the terrorist Godzilla of the classroom, even if it cost him 15 minutes in the naughty corner.

This blog, project Blurst Your Bubble is all about the fun in destroying or reducing other people's work. In one sense, it could be interpreted as paying homage to an Indie art project Project Blurst (http://projectblurst.blogspot.com). But that would be a misinterpretation. No it's about mockery, pure and simple, and if that accidentally pays homage, well, you can't win them all.

The rules of Project Blurst are one art project a month for 12 months after a fully followed through new years' resolution. Project Blurst Your Bubble has a slightly modified rule set. Each project must be done within an hour, and each must be linked to a original Project Blurst art piece...

So first up, a portrait....
